To create a truly treasured family heirloom like this, you’ll want to make sure your photos are the best they can be. So, here are a few helpful hints to help you do this:

1. Capture the anticipation of the holiday—baking cookies, decorating the house and tree, shopping for gifts, sending out greeting cards, or wrapping presents.

2. Include photos that preserve traditions, both family and religious, as well as those of school performances, holiday parties, and other festive occasions typical of the season.

3. Take some pictures on Christmas Eve that reflect the season, even if they’re posed. Such as the children hanging their stockings, leaving out cookies and milk for Santa or nestled in their beds.

4. Take photos of various family groupings—grandparents with the grandkids, all the aunts and uncles in one shot, your immediate family.

5. Amid all the hustle and bustle of Christmas morning, get shots of the excitement—the children rushing to see what Santa has brought, the traditional feasts and family gatherings.

6. Don’t forget the aftermath—the piles of discarded wrapping paper, grandpa asleep in his chair, the children playing with their new toys.

These are simple suggestions, but if you’ll follow them, you’ll be amazed at how much they will enrich your Holiday experience and the memories you’re trying to preserve.
