How to Make Your Photos Stand Out

Many photographs fall in the category of “tradition.” You take them annually,
you take them often. So, from senior snapshots to wedding portraits, how
can you make your photos stand out?

It’s a challenge Professional Photographer Cherie Hogan considers with every
client.

Get Out of the Studio!

Portrait studios use the same props, backdrops, and poses for everyone!
When you leave a studio, you come home with a smiling mug shot of yourself
or your son/daughter. You now have a picture of what they look like, not
WHO they are. A picture of them holding a football or in their cheer uniform
isn’t enough – you want to remember their personality and expressions also!

Tell Your Story

Show who YOU are! In your clothing choices, expressions, and location you
shoot at. Be photographed doing what you love doing! You can really shoot
anywhere you want – even out on a boat if you love wakeboarding or
waterskiing. That is how you are going to get the genuine reactions, not a
forced smile. You can have your engagement photos taken where you had
your first date or just doing something you love to do together.

Have Your Hair & Make-Up Professionally Done

Have your hair and makeup professionally done. Having your hair and
makeup professionally done is going to make you feel better, more confident
and able to let loose in front of the camera! Besides that, it’s going to mean
less photoshopping. The more photoshopping involved the more plastic you
are going to look. It’s one thing to zap out a blemish but another to have to
smooth all of you skin because professional makeup products and
application techniques weren’t used.
