Ikea+10 Challenge: Silverware Caddy

Each month, we take a simple object you see at Ikea and turn it over to some creative minds to see how they can reinvent the product. This month, creativity gets the better of the Ikea Ordning Silverware Caddy.

Wendy Hyde from The Shabby Nest transforms it into a pendant light while Holly Charlesworth and Natalie Shirley from My Sister’s Suitcase turn it into a vase and jewelry holder.

Turning the Ordning Silverware Caddy into a pendant light is a fairly easy process. You only need a few supplies and a little bit of patience.

Start with a caddy, a pair of tin snips, a hammer, and a light kit.

After measuring the diameter of the light kit, cut a hole of the same size in the bottom of the silverware caddy with tin snips.

Then hammer the edges of the hole you’ve cut to flatten them out.

After that, all you have to do is slip the light kit through the hole, and secure it on the inside.

That’s it! A custom industrial-style pendant light for pennies!
