Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Salt Lake Parade of Homes

Adam Bangerter, Perry and Katherine Fife with the Make-A-Wish Foundation stop by Studio 5 to share their story

With the help of generous donors and volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah is on track to grant more than 160 wishes this year, 20% more than the number of wishes granted last year. This year Adam Bangerter, with Bangerter Homes, created a special room in honor of Make-A-Wish participant Perry… who’s wish was to have a drum set.

At the time of his wish, 16-year old Perry loved swimming, skating, camping, biking, sports and all kinds of music, but especially drums. When Perry was given the chance to declare a wish at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah, there was no question of what he wanted. A lot of kids that come into A Wishing Place play the Wishing Quest game to help them decide what they want to wish for.

The Wishing Quest game helps encourage the wish kid to open up and talk about possibilities for their wish. Without hesitation, Perry wished to have his very own drum set. And even though Perry will continue to battle cystic fibrosis, having this drum set is a great artistic outlet for him, where he can take his mind off his struggles and just enjoy playing a great drum riff.

When Perry and Adam Bangerter with Bangerter Homes first met a few months ago, they bonded. Since they met, Adam invited Perry to play the drums with the band he is in at a summer backyard concert. He accepted the invitation and they had a blast.

The new room in the Salt Lake Parade of Homes was revealed to Perry and his family. You can see this room by going to the Salt Lake Parade of Homes. Perry’s room is located at 7583 South 4730 West in West Jordan.

This is one of five rooms that has been designed in honor of a wish in this year’s Parade of Homes. Builders like Bangerter Homes help raise awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by designing a room in honor of a wish that has been granted by the Foundation.

In addition a portion of the ticket sales for the Parade of Homes benefits the Make-A-Wish foundation of Utah.

Parade goers can also show support and donate $5 now to the Make-A-Wish foundation of Utah by pulling out your phone and texting the word “WISH” to 9-0999. A one time charge of $5 will be added to your mobile phone bill.
