In order to repair your credit, if it’s negative, is to take the time and make and effort to send in a credit dispute form to all three major credit bureaus. Remember, a creditor only cares about their books and databases reading correctly.

Here’s what’s necessary to make a successful dispute:

Prove it.

When filling out the dispute form (see below), simply telling your story is not enough. You have to prove it. This means you must provide hard-copy evidence to back up your claim. For example, if your credit report shows you haven’t paid a collection, but you’re certain you did, track down a receipt for the payment and send it in with the dispute form. Don’t describe your dispute. Prove your dispute!

What and Why.

A credit dispute form can only be used to either remove incorrect information from your credit report or record the correct information amending the negatives on your credit. Your credit is what it is. Make sure it reads correctly.

You Have to Make the Effort Yourself.

The fault in the credit world affects you. Not the bank, not the dealer, not your neighbor, but you. Often a creditor will say they’ll take the time, effort and money to report the correct information, but it’s not their top priority. Count on yourself.
