Now is the time to try bargello!
Have you heard of bargello? This embroidery technique that was super popular in the 70s, in many groovy combinations, is making a comeback with fresh palettes and updated patterns.
Artist and author Amy Latta says it’s a good project for someone who wants to dabble in the art of needlework.
Bargello is a fun and easy form of needlepoint that uses straight vertical stitches to create eye-catching geometric patterns. For supplies, all you need is plastic canvas or needlepoint canvas, a tapestry needle, tapestry wool or yarn, and scissors.
To create the basic stitch, you simply bring your needle up from the back through a square, then send it back down through a square above it. The stitch can be adjusted to any length by skipping a different number of boxes before sending the needle back down.
With this technique, you can make anything from tapestries, wall hangings, purses, wallets, magnets, bookmarks, etc.
Amy is providing three free patterns on her website.
