You can benefit from these art therapy projects just as much as your kids!
A season of change is among us. A new school year, new teachers, new schedules… it can bring a lot of emotions – for our children, and, for us!
Becky Farley, co-founder of Mindful Art Company, says it’s important to be aware of the emotions and share them, through art. She shared two projects that can help us process our feelings in a creative outlet.
The first project stems from the following poem:
The Guest House
By Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

- Use a marker to make a face/emoji on one of your fingerprints that reflects that emotion.
- Repeat step 5 until you have an entire house full of emojis!

- Doodle It!
- Connect!
Find someone to share this with.
