We promise you can install this hanging lamp.
With our theme for Season 19 being, “Be Light,” this project takes it quite literally with a lighting idea that will solve multiple issues with one quick and inexpensive DIY.
Creative contributor Michelle Crowley is calling it the “soft-wired lighting fixture” and shares her bright light with us!
Michelle wanted flattering, soft light in rooms that were too harsh with can lights and ceiling fixtures. Michelle said, “Light is one of the most significant features in the design of any room, yet it’s often one of last things people think about when designing a new space. Builders typically just throw up a ton of overhead can lights and call it good.”
Michelle wanted a lot of light, but said it needs to come from lots of sources scattered strategically around the room. Most of the time we don’t have the luxury of placing hard wired electrical boxes for lighting in places we want light.
Michelle found a workable solution that allows you to place lights almost anywhere and at any height.
One of the places Michelle used this new found technique was bedrooms. She wanted both flattering and practical light for the guest rooms at her lake house.
“The rooms are small, so the night stands on either side of the beds are tiny. No room for lamps,” she said.
She converted pendant lights to hang from the ceiling from a hard-wire light to a plug in light, just like any lamp.
Michelle is the newest addition to the Studio 5 team, joining in Season 18 as our Creative Contributor. Friends describe Michelle as a gatherer. Entertaining, nesting at home, and jumping in painters overalls have become Michelle’s happy place. Michelle is a degreed interior designer. She gets her energy from other people.
