‘The most important thing we can do.’ Keep a clean home by stopping 5 gross habits

Maintain a germ-free, clean home by getting rid of a few habits.

Preserve your space and make it feel clean!

Professional home organizer and lifestyle content creator Ashley La Fond shared five “gross things” we should stop doing to maintain a cleaner and healthier living space.

  1. Wash Your Hands More

The most important habit to adopt is washing your hands frequently. Ashley emphasized, “It is the number one most important thing that we can do.” Washing hands reduces germs and bacteria, making us feel cleaner and preventing the spread of outside contaminants inside our homes.

  1. No Shoes Inside the House

Ashley advocates for a strict no-shoe policy inside the house. She explained, “There’s nothing more dirty than the shoes that touch the pavement outside.” By keeping shoes off our floors and carpets, we can avoid bringing in dirt and germs from outside.

  1. Clean Your Phones

Our phones are major germ collectors. Ashley pointed out, “Your phone is something you’re placing on a restaurant table, throwing in a bag, bringing in your car, it’s something your kids play with.” She recommended using alcohol-based lens cleaning wipes to regularly clean phones and reduce the spread of germs.

  1. Avoid Putting Bags on Kitchen Counters

Placing handbags and school bags on kitchen counters is a big no-no. Ashley explained, “Those book bags are going onto hooks and being touched by a million children and going on the ground.” Keeping bags off kitchen counters helps maintain a clean space where we prepare food.

  1. No Outdoor Clothes on the Bed

Wearing travel, school, or outdoor clothes on the bed is another habit to stop. Ashley is strict about this rule, stating, “Those clothes come off before you are ever setting foot anywhere into a bed.” Changing clothes after coming home helps keep our beds clean and free from outside contaminants.
