HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OCTOBER AT THE OGDEN NATURE CENTER

PRESCHOOL DISCOVERY DAYS – BIZZY BUZZY BUGS
Choose a time:
Monday, October 4: 9:30 am, 11 am, or 1 pm
Tuesday, October 5: 9:30 am, 11 am, or 1 pm
Wednesday, October 6: 9:30 am, 11 am, or 1 pm
Cost: $4 per child / adult chaperones are free
Ages: 3-5
Buzz and crawl around the Ogden Nature Center as you hunt and net insects. See a spider up close, grow your own wings, sing buggy songs and hear buggy stories. Programs are one hour. Pre-registration and deposit required. No walk-ins. Please call 801-621-7595 to sign up.

WILD WEDNESDAYS – SCALEY TALES

Wednesday, October 6 at 3:30 pm
Free for ONC members
Or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
Have you ever wondered what a snake feels like? What about a tortoise shell? Come get an up-close look at the Ogden Nature Center’s resident reptiles. Learn what makes reptiles so special in the animal world while meeting Laser and Rex, threatened Desert Tortoises, and Bert the Great Basin Gopher Snake.

NATURE’S BLOOD SUCKERS

Thursday, October 7 from 7 – 8:30 pm
$3 members / $5 non-members
All ages welcome
Forget vampires, these blood suckers are for real. Join ONC naturalists for a 90-minute program about plants, insects and other critters that draw blood. Participants will take an easy evening trail walk, so please dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required by Tuesday, October 5 at 5 pm.

WIGGLING WORMS

Saturday, October 9 from 10 – 11 am
$2 members / $3 non-members
General admission rates apply to adults and siblings of participating children
Ages: 5-12
Join volunteer Fran Bush as she explores the wiggly world of worms. Find out why worms are so important and investigate how they move and what they eat. Space is limited to 12 children. Please pre-register by Friday, October 8 at 5 pm.

MAKING PERSONAL CONNECTIONS

Saturday, October 9 from 10 am – noon
$2 members / $3 non-members
Ages: 12+
Explore your relationship with nature through art and reflection. ONC teacher-naturalist Susan Snyder will guide participants as they examine and discuss journals by famous American naturalists. You’ll then hit the trails and try your hand at making journal entries of your own. Please bring a journal or notebook and any drawing or writing utensils you prefer. A simple journal, regular pencils, pens, colored pencils and crayons will be provided. Pre-registration is required by 5 pm on Friday, October 8 to 801-621-7595.

WILD WEDNESDAYS – EXPLORERS

Wednesday, October 13 at 3:30 pm
Free for ONC members
Or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
How did Columbus sail across an ocean? How did early explorers find their way across the wilderness? Learn how explorers of the past and the present use a compass and map to reach their destinations. Hit the trails and test your new skills in a scavenger hunt around the Ogden Nature Center.

Utah has 18 species or kinds of bats. Kick off the Halloween season by learning about these misunderstood and amazing flying mammals.

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT – A HALLOWEEN EVENT (full press release coming soon!)

All ages are welcome
The Ogden Nature Center presents Creatures of the Night — a not-so-scary Halloween event for the whole family. Learn about native nocturnal and crepuscular creatures like owls, bats, raccoons and more. Enjoy activities, games, treats, & learning. Creatures of the Night will be held rain or shine. WILD WEDNESDAYS – MONSTERS IN OUR BACKYARD

Wednesday, October 27 at 3:30 pm
Free for ONC members
Or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
Come dressed as your favorite wild thing (anything in nature will do) and discover what monsters live at the Ogden Nature Center. Learn why snakes hiss and how tarantulas move. Then test your nerve and sample some the most ooey-gooey and grimey-slimey concoctions that our teacher/naturalists can create.
