Here’s how to find comfort this Christmastime.
If you were writing a letter to Santa, what would top your list? At Studio 5, our Christmas list goes beyond toys and treats. This year, we’re focusing on a word that we want to embrace throughout the season and beyond. Rather than material gifts, we’ve chosen to embody a word that captures the essence of the holidays: comfort.
Life Coach Tiffany Peterson shared the significance of comfort.
The Magic of Comfort
Tiffany shared how the word “comfort” reminds her of the Christmas song “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” where the chorus repeats “comfort and joy.” Tiffany expressed, “When you’re in a space where you feel comfortable and at peace, there’s an ease. You feel cozy and cuddled, and all of the good things with Christmas.”
Finding Your Comfort
Tiffany encouraged us to start by asking ourselves what nourishes us and brings us peace. She suggested, “Even getting clear on what that looks like for you is a great place to start.” This time of year offers many choices, which can be overwhelming, but focusing on what truly brings comfort can help us navigate the season with more ease.
The Danish Concept of Hygge
Tiffany explored the Danish concept of hygge, which means cultivating coziness all year round. Tiffany explained, “It’s this concept of creating a lifestyle that invites the cozy, whether it’s sipping warm tea, wearing cozy socks, or enjoying candlelight.” These small, intentional acts can significantly enhance our sense of comfort and joy.
Prioritizing Comfort
One of Tiffany’s key takeaways was the importance of prioritizing comfort. Tiffany noted that during the holidays, we often feel pressured to say yes to every event and gathering. However, she emphasized the need to protect our peace by making intentional choices. “If I say yes to every possible thing in December, I’m exhausted,” she said. Setting boundaries and being selective about our commitments can help maintain our inner peace.
The Little Things Matter
Tiffany reminded us that comfort often comes from the little things in life. “The little things are everything,” she said, whether it’s enjoying a hot beverage, looking at Christmas lights, or reading a favorite book. These small moments of joy add up to create a fulfilling and comforting holiday season.
Spreading Comfort to Others
Finally, Tiffany highlighted the importance of extending comfort to others. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, checking in on loved ones, or supporting those in need, spreading comfort can enrich our own lives as well. “Showing up healthily for yourself and others creates a rich, full life,” she said.
This Christmas, let’s embrace the word “comfort” and make it a central theme of our celebrations. By focusing on what nourishes us, prioritizing our peace, and spreading comfort to others, we can create a joyful and fulfilling holiday season.
