Over-the-counter retinols DO work! Here’s the Best of Beauty winner you can get online

This is one of the best over-the-counter retinols.

A lot of buzz goes around about retinols, and not all of it is true. Lisa Richards recently debunked the top myths about this anti-aging product. One of those myths was that over-the-counter retinols don’t work. When it comes to whether or not you need a prescription retinol, Lisa said, “over the counter has been proven to be just as effective.” With that in mind, we set out to find one of the best over-the-counter retinols, and this is Allure’s top pick.

This Best of Beauty winner contains Vitamin F to improve skin texture, while the retinol improves uneven skin tone. Keep in mind the percentage when looking at over-the-counter retinols. This one contains a relatively high 1% retinol, so tread lightly if you have sensitive skin.

In general, over-the-counter retinols “are way more tolerable, and you see less irritation,” Lisa says. If you’re looking for a solid retinol without a prescription, this is the top pick.
