Pepper Seared Ahi Tuna with Ginger Soy Sauce

2 each fresh Ahi tuna filets
2 tablespoons coarse black pepper, ground
2 tablespoons olive oil

Brush tuna with olive oil and sprinkle each side with pepper. Cook in a non-stick skillet over high heat – 2 minutes per side for rare, 4 minutes per side for medium. Set aside.

Ginger Soy Sauce

  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white wine (may substitute water)
  • 1/4 cup pickled ginger, sliced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons water

    Combine all ingredients except for cornstarch, in a sauce pan. Simmer for 15 minutes.
    Dissolve cornstarch in 2 tablespoons water. Add cornstarch mixture to sauce, simmer 5 minutes.

    Pour over tuna filets. Serves 2.
