Pop Up Art at UMFA

Dana Rogers with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts creates fun adventures for the whole family on Studio 5

The UMFA is celebrating the intricate art of paper engineering with the exhibition, The Art of Robert Sabuda: Travels in Time and Space, on view through September 9. A best-selling author, Sabuda is recognized as one of the world’s leading pop-up paper artists and engineers. His detailed paper sculptures, dazzling in their color schemes and mechanics, bring both classic and original stories to life. The Sabuda gallery features a work station where visitors will be able to create their very own pop-up. In conjunction with the exhibition we are offering a wide variety of programming forboth children and adults including:

A new Family Backpack where young visitors can create their own pop-up book. We have a variety of family backpacks full of fun activities for young visitors to the Museum. Backpacks are FREE and available for check-out at the visitor services desk.

Artful Afternoon: Turning Paper into Art. July 21 from 1 – 4 pm Join us for this FREE Artful Afternoon Family Festival. Bring the whole family for special art-making activities, a treasure hunt, paper pop-up workshops, and more! The day and all of the events will be FREE and open to the public.

Storytelling

Origami

Treasure Hunt

Fan Decorating

Group Paper Sculpture

General Museum information: Admission costs: $5 adult, $3 seniors and children 6-18, all children under 6 and U of U students, faculty and staff are free. Hours: Tues- Friday 10 am – 5 pm, Wed. 10 am – 8 pm, Weekends 11 am – 5 pm, closed on Mondays. FREE day the first Wednesday of every month thanks to ZAP.
