SelectHealth Offering $2,500

It’s time to help those that are helping others. SelectHealth awards money to those in our community who are helping to make us healthy in some way and is excited to accept applications for the 2013 Select 25 award.

Spencer Sutherland from SelectHealth and Jennifer Campbell from South Valley Sanctuary talk about the awards program.

Each year, SelectHealth rewards 25 individuals or organizations for making a healthy difference in Utah. Award recipients receive $2,500 to help further their cause.

“It’s an honor to assist other organizations who share a similar goal of improving health throughout Utah,” says SelectHealth President and CEO, Pat Richards. “We’re excited to help those who have found a way to make life better for those around them.”

Winners are selected from all areas of Utah. Last year’s winners represented a wide variety of causes including dance classes for children with special needs, day care services for families suffering from substance abuse, and eye care for those without insurance.

South Valley Sanctuary, a 2012 winner, offers shelter and supportive services to those who have been victimized by domestic violence. Each year, South Valley provides housing for more than 400 individuals who are in immediate danger. They used their Select 25 grant for transportation, interpreting services, and medications for their clients.

“This $2,500 will help more than just one family, it will help the entire community,” says South Valley Sanctuary executive director Karla Arroyo. “Hopefully, someday we will achieve our goal of having a community free of domestic violence.”

Applications for the 2013 Select 25 award are available at www.select25.org through January 11, 2013. Only the first 500 applications will be considered.
