Scalp Care: The Foundation of Healthy Hair
Scalp care has become a major trend, and for good reason. “To get healthy hair, to get our hair to grow and to feel good, to look good, we have to start at the source, which is our scalp.” Megan said. She recommended setting aside time once a week for a scalp treatment.
Megan uses scalp oils for healthier hair growth. “ You just rake it through the hair,” she explained. “Make sure you do this when you have enough time for about two hours of penetration for that oil to really sit in.” The oils help with blood circulation and hydrating the scalp.
Megan also suggested using a scalp massager to enhance the benefits of scalp oiling. “ It’s like magic,” she said. “It’s worth every penny and it really does help with the blood circulation and help your hair grow from the scalp level.”
After oiling, you’ll want to use a clear shampoo to strip out excess oil and give your hair volume. “ If you can do nothing except this [scalp combination], do this,” Megan emphasized.
Repairing Hair Damage
If you use heat or color treatments, you’re damaging the bonds in your hair. So, it’s important to repair them. “We want to switch to adding in a bond repair system,” Megan said. “ The longer your hair is, the more important this is.”
She recommended a shampoo and a mask that go in with amino acids to help strengthen those bonds. “ It’s a temporary fix, but what it does is it’s going to make the hair look shinier and smoother, Megan explained.
Limit Head Styling
One of the simplest ways to protect your hair is to limit heat styling. “Wait till it’s like, 70% dry before you blow dry… and then limit your heat styling” Megan advised. She also recommended using a heat protectant to minimize damage when you do use heat.
Megan said to even wait to detangle hair until it’s drier. “ It helps a lot, especially the longer your hair is,” she emphasized.
Nighttime Hair Care
Taking care of your hair while you sleep can make a big difference. “ This one doesn’t even require any work, people,” Megan said. “Switch to a silk pillowcase… it reduces friction on the hair and on the face,” she explained. Silk pillowcases help detangle hair and keep it shiny and easy to brush out in the morning.
Don’t get confused between satin and silk. “ There’s a difference between satin and silk,” Megan said. “Silk is going to be better for you. It’s also going to wash better and be nicer.”
