Spring Eats: 6 light and fresh menu items to try this season

Spring eats are hitting restaurant menus!

The spring season brings with it a subtle shift from heavy, creamy comfort food to lighter, fresher fare! From arugula to lemon, and even artichokes, we’re celebrating the foods that are fresh and in season at restaurants around the state.

Studio 5 Food Editor Chelsea Fairbourn tracked down six spring eats to try during this season.

Spring Eats Recommendations

  1. Berries-n-Cream – 250 Red Cliffs Drive, St. George or 143 E 1600 N, North Logan

What to try: the in-season fruits will always be your best option for add-ins, but as a default, the raspberry/blackberry combination is a popular option.

  1. Spitz – 12300 S. 62 E., Draper

What to try: The Remix Bowl is a great fresh option loaded with mixed meat, quinoa, tomatoes, roasted corn, feta, and topped off with a lemon herb tahini dressing. It’s light, but filling, and will satisfy your craving for fresher food.

  1. Village Baker – 3320 N. Digital Drive, Lehi

What to try: We don’t always recommend Egg Salad Sandwiches, but when we do, they’re from the Village Baker. It takes the hassle out of having to hard-boil your own eggs and make it from scratch, and their version isn’t too eggy. Great flavor, served on wonder bread style bread, and it’s an easy takeout option for picnic/park season.

  1. Via 313 Pizza – 212 E. University Parkway, Orem

What to try: When you think of spring, Detroit style pizza probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t options that fit the bill. Via 313 has a menu with a surprisingly large number of items that incorporate arugula and artichokes (both in season in March). We tried The Rocket Pizza, arugula salad, and baked artichokes, and all of them were hearty and filling, but with a fresh twist.

  1. Chubby Baker – 317 E. 900 S., Salt Lake City

What to try: We love the Chubby Baker for their donuts, but this time of year we’re reaching for their fizzy drinks! The raspberry peach fizz drink or the pink drink are just as fun to look at as they are to drink.

  1. Gourmandise – 250 S. 300 E., Salt Lake City

What to try: Gourmandise the Bakery is known for their desserts and this month’s signature cake slice lives up to its reputation! For the month of March they’re serving a raspberry almond poppyseed loaf cake that packs in the spring flavor you love, with a subtle tart bite.
