Studio 5’s “Stationery” Love List

Sarah Jane: Illustrating Childhood

I’m Sarah. Sarah Jane. My childhood has come back in use as the name of my shop selling vintage inspired art and stationery for families. I am an artist and mother of 3 young children, and love to create designs that remind us all of the charming life of childhood.

My ETSY shop opened in October of 2007 and from that point, life has been full creating new designs, stuffing envelopes to customers all around the world, building a team of great gals I love to work with, and starting a career in children’s book illustration.

My resume is small, but my days are full working on up and coming projects! My first publication, FULL OF LIFE, by Nancy O’Dell of Access Hollywood, and published by Simon and Schuster came out April 2009. I am currently illustrating the children’s picture book CHRISTMAS GOODNIGHT written by Laura Godwin, published with Katherine Tegen books, an imprint of Harper Collins, which will be released Fall 2011. I absolutely love the world of publishing, and hope to illustrate many more books in the future!

Isabell’s Umbrella: Paper Goods & Such Designed to Lift the Clouds of a Rainy Day

Isabell’s Umbrella grew from an obsession with adorable stationery, writing instruments and design. Ashley Giessing, award-winning designer and owner/artist of Isabell’s Umbrella, believes she should have been born in the nineteenth century, when all correspondence was done by hand. Highlights of her childhood include drawing, making little notes and stationery for her younger brother and older sisters, and the monthly letters she would receive from her dear Grandma Sweetie.

It was when Ashley first entered the design field that she began dreaming about creating her own line of stationery. Five years later Ashley took that leap, opening Isabell’s Umbrella in January of 2008.

Specializing in paper goods designed to brighten your day, Ashley’s hopes are to renew the lost “art” of hand correspondence by creating stationery you will want to share with others. “There is nothing that means more to me than a kind, heartfelt, handwritten note from someone I love.”

Price Range:

Affordable and adorable are synonymous at Isabell’s Umbrella. Our prices range from $1.00 to $30.00, making it easy for anyone to “send a smile”.

Sycamore Street Press

Sycamore Street Press is dedicated to combining fresh designs, sustainable methods, and the vintage charm of letterpress printing.

In the fall of 2007, Kirk and Eva Jorgensen moved into a charming little place on the brick-paved road called Sycamore Street in Columbus, Ohio. A week later, a 1000 lb. Vandercook #3 letterpress took up residence in their dining room, and Eva began using it to print her quirky little drawings.

Since then, Sycamore Street Press has grown into the full-time family business for the Jorgensen duo. We no longer print in our dining room, and have relocated from the Midwest to the Mountain West. But we still print everything with care on our beloved hand-cranked letterpress.

We collaborate regularly with a few of our good friends with whom we have created a collection of heirloom-quality letterpress greeting cards, business cards, invitations, posters, and other paper goods for you to enjoy. In addition, we collaborate with a different artist each month to create The Sycamore Club limited edition prints.
