Some stories are just so shocking, so crazy, and so hilarious, you just have to see it to believe it.
Like this one. Laura Larsen’s grandson’s snake went missing, and they found it in the most unexpected place.
It all started when Laura Larsen’s grandson received a snake as a birthday present six years ago. Fast forward to last October, the snake escaped from its cage. Despite thorough searches, it remained elusive.
Laura recounted, “I was actually in Vegas about three weeks ago and it’s a little unnerving to sleep in a house where you know there’s a snake loose.” She kept asking her daughter, Misha, if she could look for the snake, but Misha insisted, “Mom, it is not here. We have looked everywhere. You will not find it.”
Important fact: Misha’s family visited Laura at her home in Logan for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The story took a surprising turn when Laura was playing fetch with their dog. The dog would ruffle up a rug in one of the guest bedrooms, and every morning, Laura would straighten it out. One day, she noticed the rug still wasn’t lying flat. “I just reached under to grab it, and it felt like a snake,” she said. She screamed! After hearing the scream, her husband Ryan thought, “Oh man, she must have slipped, or she saw a mouse or something.” Nope! It was a snake!
Laura and Ryan discovered the snake had been hiding under the rug. “This is the room that the family slept in when visiting from Vegas. And their suitcase was over here. So, the snake must have slid out of the suitcase,” Ryan explained. The snake had somehow made its way under the rug and had been in their house for a month.
The snake was safely relocated to Laura’s daughter’s husband’s brother’s house in Smithfield until the Las Vegas family can travel back up north to reunite with their snake.
Reflecting on the experience, Laura said, “Funny thing was, I was worried about the snake down in Vegas when I was sleeping in their house. And I’d actually been sleeping with the snake here in our house for a month.” In the end, Laura humorously concluded, “I’ve learned that anything can happen.”
Although the family may never fully understand how the snake traveled all the way from Las Vegas to Logan without them knowing, this is an experience they’ll laugh about for a lifetime.
