YOUR screen time influences your kids’ well-being. Here are 4 ways to cut down your phone use

Here’s how you can cut down on your own screen time.

Recent studies reveal a surprising factor influencing your child’s well-being: your screen time.

Emily Jones, from Family Tech University, shared how we can improve our phone habits to benefit our children.

Parents often feel helpless about managing technology’s impact on their children. However, studies show that parents’ screen habits significantly affect their kids. Emily believes this revelation is empowering because it means parents can control and improve their children’s tech habits by adjusting their own.

Steps to Improve Phone Habits

  1. Control Notifications
    • Take three minutes to review your phone’s apps.
    • Decide which apps are worthy of interrupting your day.
    • Disable unnecessary notifications to reduce distractions.
  2. Designate “All In” Time
    • Set aside specific times when you are fully present with your children.
    • For example, from 3 p.m. to dinner, keep your phone out of sight and focus on family time.
  3. Limit Phone Use in Bedrooms
    • Avoid using phones as alarms; use a traditional alarm clock instead.
    • This improves sleep quality and reduces insomnia.
  4. Embrace Boredom
    • Encourage yourself and your children to experience boredom.
    • Use waiting times to be present and engage with those around you.

By taking these steps, parents can model healthy tech habits for their children. This proactive approach not only improves children’s well-being but also enhances family relationships and personal productivity.
