Bridal Shower Ideas

Jennifer Adams author of Wedding Showers shared the following ideas on Studio 5. For more ideas on showers you can purchase her books at local book stores.

(1) Spa Day. With a smaller group of friends or colleagues you can schedule time at the local spa for facials, pedicures, or manicures. Then meet afterward for lunch at the bride’s favorite restaurant or for a dessert at someone’s house. Alternately, you can treat your guests to a spa day at the host’s home. Divide into partners and massage each other’s hands or paint each other’s toenails. Or you could have recipes for homemade bath salts that you all put together as an activity. A shower favor could be bath salts or a package of herbal tea.

(2) Cookie Swap. Instead of playing games at the wedding shower, have everyone come with a plate of their favorite homemade cookies as well as a copy of their favorite cookie recipe that they’ve written out on a recipe card for the bride. Have everyone swap cookies, so guests get a plate with 2 or 3 of each kind to take home. The bride gets a collection of favorite cookie recipes as well. Or you could have a cookie baking shower. Have a recipe of sugar cookie dough ready to go when guests arrive. Then give each guest a portion of dough to roll out and cut into shapes. You can talk while they are baking and then decorate them together once they are cool.

(3) Christmas Traditions. Have each guest come prepared to tell the bride about their favorite Christmas tradition. Take time to go around the room and have each guest tell the story of their tradition and why it is special to them or their family. You might want to consider buying a nice journal or handmade book that you can give to the bride where she can start writing down her own traditions she wants to create for her family. You can make a centerpiece for your table out of a glass bowl filled with Christmas ornaments, and for shower favors, each guest can choose an ornament to take home with them.

(4) Chick Flicks. With a close group of family or friends have a movie night and/or slumber party and watch all those old favorites like Sleepless in Seattle, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and Pride and Prejudice. The Wedding Showers book has a list of 35 great romantic movies and other ideas for a night of chicks flicks.
