12 slices Italian breadm crusts removed
5 cups St. George or California cheddar cheese
3 cups nonfat milk
1 cup liquid egg substitute
1/2 t salt
1/4 t freshly ground pepper
3/4 t dried sage, crushed
1 1/2 t dried thyme, crushed
Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Line the dish with half
of the bread slices to cover the bottom. Top with half of the grated cheese. Combine
all the remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Pour half of the liquid mixture
over the bread and cheese. Layer remaining bread, cheese, and liquid mixture.
Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for a minimum of two hours or
overnight before baking. Remove from refrigeratior two hours before baking.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place the strata in oven and bake uncovered for
approximately 40 minutes, ir until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Allow
to stand for 5 minutes before cutting.
