The 5- Step Process for Choosing Family Picture Outfits

1. Start with Your Outfit

Casey’s first piece of advice is for the women in the family to choose their outfits first. Women often feel more anxious about what to wear, so by picking your outfit early, you can ease the process for everyone else. Pick something you feel comfortable and confident in because your outfit will set the tone for the rest of the family.

2. Let One Outfit Inspire the Rest

Select one standout outfit, whether it belongs to an adult or child, to serve as the “mood board” for the entire family. This outfit should feature patterns and colors that you love and want to incorporate into the overall look. By drawing inspiration from one central piece, you’ll create a cohesive and visually appealing ensemble.

3. Stick to a Simple Color Palette

Keeping the color palette uncomplicated is key to a harmonious family photo. Casey advises sticking to two main colors, typically neutrals like ivory, navy, khaki, or white. These neutrals provide a timeless base for your outfits. Then, add one to two minor colors, which are vibrant and fun. These minor colors should be drawn from the central outfit’s patterns or hues. The balance between neutrals and minor colors makes for a coordinated look.

4. Embrace Neutrals and Classic Pieces

Casey recommends embracing neutrals and classic clothing items. Avoid overly trendy pieces that may look outdated in a few years. Instead, choose timeless and classic outfits. Your family photos should remain relevant for years to come.

5. Remain Season-less

Opt for season-less attire that can be worn year-round. Avoid heavy sweaters or summer outfits that make your photos feel tied to a specific season. By maintaining a season-less wardrobe, your family photos will remain versatile and suitable for any occasion.

By following these straightforward tips, you’ll take the stress out of choosing family photo outfits, and you’ll feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera.
