2 c shortening
1 cups white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 t vanilla
1 t almond extract
4 c flour
2 t baking soda
2 t cream of tartar
You can also add chocolate chips, chopped nuts,
or raisins to batter before chilling. When ready to bake,
drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets and bake
Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, vanilla, and almond extract
in a large bowl until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl sift
together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar, add
gradually to creamed mixture. Chill dough for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mold dough into 1-inch balls.
Place onto greased cookie sheets. Flatten each cookie with
bottom of a drinking glass that has been dipped in sugar. Bake
10 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Store in covered container.
Makes 5 dozen cookies.
