Style File: Pastel Power

In today’s style file – they come and go every spring, but this year pastels are
popping up more than ever! Studio 5 fashion Contributor Heidi Allen shares
five ways you can pull off the pretty pastel palette in your wardrobe.

Pastels with White
For a sophisticated, clean look, pair your soft, feminine pastel with a crisp
white complimentary piece. Adding a dose of neutral can help balance out
the girly nature of pastels. With white or even a lighter neutral color, the
pastel hue looks more refined. It’s simple, classy and chic. When doubting
how to wear a pastel, go with white.

Same Pastel in Different Shades
Wear your favorite shade of pastel with another pastel in the same color
family. Make sure when wearing two colors of the same hue, the shades have
a clear distinction. Both shades should be different enough that there is a
pleasing contrast.

Pastel on Pastel
This is a fun, playful option of wearing pastels. It’s using the concept of color
blocking, but with springy hues. Choose your favorite pastel color and pair
with another opposite pastel color. The pastel shades are so light and
friendly, that when paired with another pastel, they don’t come off too
strong. This is an easy and flirty way to wear this spring trend.

Pull in Pastel Prints
Look for these spring pastels in prints. And don’t be afraid to match two
different prints with various pastel colors incorporated in the pattern. The
pastels are a great compliment to almost all other summer colors, so finding
the lighter shades mixed among the bolder ones won’t be hard. If you aren’t
confident with wearing the pastel shades, look for a print that’s familiar to
you…a print you know you like to wear. It will be easier to wear pastels and
prints if you love the pattern.

Accessorize with Pastels
When in doubt, accessorize. It’s one of the most simple rules of fashion and
one of the easiest. If you aren’t sure about pastels, go ahead and try the
colors in your accessories. A great accessory can take your outfit to the next
level. A pastel accessory can serve as the focus of a completely neutral outfit
or it can be the compliment piece to an already colorful ensemble.
