Keep it Classic – Keeping it classic is a good basic rule for just about any trend. Whether it be the shape, color, cut or style it is always safe. Sequins, however, are anything but safe. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with them! Pairing up a flashy top with a cardigan, blazer, or pencil skirt will keep you looking professional and age appropriate. Don’t be afraid to try new trends. I found the adorable sequin cardigan at J.Crew. Right now it is on sale for $69.99(originally $118.00). The color and shape keep it classic. I adore this cardigan but it is also something my darling mother would wear. Classic styles work for all ages. I paired up the striped sequined tank from Target with a classic boyfriend blazer. The tank was only $17.99 and looks a lot like something I could find at J.Crew. Mixing inexpensive pieces with some nicer items is a great way to spread your budget and keep your wardrobe looking high quality.
Keep it Simple – Simplifying is a great way to keep you from looking like you’re wearing a costume. When the sequins are the same color as the top, like the black T-shirt from Ross for only $7.99, it looks less flashy. Also, not all sequins have to sparkle! The T-shirt from J.Crew for $34.99 has sequins paired up with beadings that are more matte. The older we get, the less cute glitter looks on us. This is a perfect way to keep up with the trends, feel young and not look like we’re trying too hard.
Make a Statement – Just because you don’t want to look like you just got done dancing on the disco stage, does not mean you can’t have fun with the sparkling trend! Wear it proudly! I suggest finding a statement piece like the headbands from target for $7.99 and $9.99. Nordstrom’s now carries Tom’s that sparkle and Wal-Mart has a look-a-like for only $7.00! Accessories, in general, are a great way to make a statement. However, don’t let that keep you from making a bold statement with a sequined top or dress! Have fun with the trend.
Keeping these simple rules in mind will help you sparkle without making you feel like you’re playing dress ups. Be bold and have fun. It’s your time to shine!
