The Holiday Face: Five Fabulous Fix-Ups

Professional Make-up Artist and Studio 5 Contributor Holly Mathie has five fabulous fix ups for your holiday face.

1. Bronzer

Though bronzer is heavily promoted in the summer (to keep your skin out of the sun), it is a life saver during the winter months. Dust it over the face in the areas the sun would “kiss you” if you looked up at it. It can bring life to sallow skin and warmth to your holiday look.

2. Glitter, shimmer & sheen!

Glitter is very chunky and is generally used by teens. Shimmer is less chunky but still has particles that sparkle. This product is a great option for your décolleté area (Try MAC “Silver Dusk” — $21.00, Nordstrom). Sheen is a highlighter, generally found in liquid or cream form. Place it on your collar bone to make it stand out, above your cheek bone and above your eyebrow on the outside 1/2 of the brow. This gives a glint of highlighting that accentuates your features. (Try Benefit “High Beam” — $24.00, www.benefitcosmetics.com).

3. False eyelashes

These are a great alternative if you have less than full lashes. Apply a thin strip of eyelash glue and let it air dry about 30 seconds until it is tacky. Place right at the root of your own eyelashes. The most natural looking lashes I have found are Ardel Number 109 ($11.69) found at Sally’s Beauty Supply.

4. White eyeliner

This creates a brighter, whiter eye. Line the inside “water well” to accentuate your eye. This is a great thing to do if you are tired and need a lift to your look. Look for a kohl liner as it is softer and goes on smoother (Try L’Oreal Snow White liner).

5. A bright shade of lipstick

This is the time to go all out. A face is not polished until lipstick is applied. Pick a shade of lipstick that is deep and dark, or bright and alluring, but dare to be bold. This season is all about the lips, and rich color accentuates them nicely. Use a lip primer to keep your lipstick lasting all evening. Try some gloss for high shine. Try Laura Mercier or Lancome for some fabulous Holiday shades.

Extra Tip: Spritz some perfume on a tissue and place it in your purse. To freshen up during the evening, pull out the tissue and rub it on your neck and pulse points. The fragrance will be subtle as it is re-activated.
