The Living Planet Aquarium

Head Aquarist Evan Jamison and his friend “Peaches” the Green Anaconda stop for a special appearance on Studio 5

WHY HAVE AN AQUARIUM IN THE DESERT?

Where else in the world is water so valued and respected? It´s a precious resource that defines how we live in Utah. Because Utah is not surrounded by oceans and immense water habitats, Utahns have fewer opportunities to experience, understand and appreciate the water environments that cover more than 70 percent of our planet. The Living Planet Aquarium brings animals to people who might not have the chance to see them or their water-based ecosystems in a natural setting.

THE LIVING PLANET AQUARIUM’S 2009 FUNDRAISER GALA

Scales & Tails Gala

Saturday, August 8, 2009, 5:30 PM at La Caille.

This event is to help raise funds for a new exhibit at The Living Planet: PENGUINS! This addition to the recently unveiled gallery, Journey To South America, will take visitors to the South Atlantic Ocean on an exploration of the Falkland Islands to learn about PENGUINS! The Falkland Islands are home to several species of penguins such as the King, Gentoo, Rockhopper, Magellanic and Macaroni. Penguins migrate to the Islands to breed in September and depart in early spring. Penguins’ curious and gentle nature, grace in the water, and clumsy, funny movements on land, have landed them a spot in the hearts of children and adults alike.

Help bring PENGUINS to Utah families!

The aquatic life in and around the waters of South America is among the most diverse on Earth, and most people will never get the opportunity to see it. This entire region also needs protection and care. The Living Planet Aquarium believes that by teaching people about the Earth’s ecosystems in a fun and interactive manner, they are providing them with the tools to be good environmental stewards.
