As energy prices continue to rise, homeowners are looking for ways to save money on their utility bills. This could be one of the best times ever to install new windows since energy prices are continuing to rise, and because there’s a little-known government program available to homeowners who make improvements that result in increasing energy efficiency.

Dave Candland, District Sales Representative for Wasatch Vinyl Products, says one way to begin saving money on energy bills is to install triple-pane windows.

Triple-pane windows can offer better savings than double-pane windows. A lot of companies are advertising that there’s really no difference between double-pane and triple-pane windows, but that just isn’t true. Government studies have proven that triple-pane windows can save up to 15 percent more than double-pane windows when it comes to utility bills. And, triple-pane windows can save up to 40 percent more than single-pane windows.

Triple-pane windows make your home more comfortable, provide a better sound barrier. Plus, these windows offer better security than single-pane windows since they’re harder to break.

This is a good time for homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient since there are rebates and other incentives available that can reduce costs.

For the past two years, many people were buying windows to take advantage of a federal tax credit. In 2009 and 2010, homeowners could receive a maximum credit of $1,500. In 2011, homeowners can still receive a tax credit of up to $200. Plus, rebates are still available through Rocky Mountain Power and Questar Gas. But there’s also a little known program out there that could offer huge savings to homeowners. Wasatch Vinyl is really encouraging people to take advantage of a little-known program called Utah Home Performance. This program is funded by the federal government to encourage people to achieve a 20 percent increase in the efficiency of their homes. In a nutshell, if a homeowner follows the program, he or she could have at least 50 percent of his or her home improvements paid for by the program, up to $2,000. So, this means that if the average person has $4,000 worth of energy improvements done, that person could receive $2,000 back from the program—not to mention rebates from the utility companies. Depending on your income level, the 50 percent refund could increase to as much as 80 percent.

If homeowners opt to utilize Utah Home Performance, they must work with contractors approved by the program. Wasatch Vinyl Products is an approved Utah Home Performance contractor.

Wasatch Vinyl Products specializes in custom-made windows. If you buy windows off the shelf, you’ll typically end up doing a lot of carpentry work inside and outside your home to make the windows fit properly. This can be both costly and inconvenient. Plus, our experience has shown that even though two windows may appear to be the same size, often times the dimensions are different by a few fractions of an inch.

While the incentive programs like Utah Home Performance offer some financial relief, Wasatch Vinyl Products can also help with financing programs through GE and Wells Fargo.

Payments can be financed for as low as $55 a month. Plus, keep in mind that with new windows, you could be saving 30 to 40 percent a month on your utility bills. If Studio 5 viewers call now, Wasatch Vinyl Products can begin to look at what options are available and help guide people through the Utah Home Performance program. And, right now, for the first 10 callers who purchase at least 10 windows, we’ll include free composite wood blinds.

In addition to custom windows, Wasatch Vinyl Products also does siding and patio covers.
