Studio 5 Contributor Annie Valentine gives her beauty tips for the real world.
Is there anything worse than being poor and pasty in February? For those of us trying to fight the wintertime blues without the help of a tropical vacation, here are a few fabulously affordable ways to take your look and mood from drab to fab.
1. Do-it-yourself Nails. We’d all love to have professionally manicured fake nails, but let’s face it, those babies take time and money. When the budget gets tight, pretty nails are the first thing to go. The good news is that gorgeous nails are only five dollars and half an hour of your time away. Check out Revlon’s Naturally Chic nail collection if you’re needing a feminine fix. (www.revlon.com)
2. Leg Make-up. There’s nothing worse than needing a tan without having time to apply something fake. Besides, while many fake tanning creams give you a nice golden color, they don’t cover up skin imperfections. But Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs is a revelation to the pasty leg. Not only does it give you a gorgeous glow, but makes your legs look airbrush perfect. It’s a great, fast, not too permanent fix to the wintertime whites, and it rinses off in the shower. 3. Do-it-yourself Roots. Those of us who like to keep our color updated know that professional color jobs are expensive, and there’s nothing more bothersome than that inch and a half of telltale roots. A great solution for the budget-conscious color client is at-home root touch-ups. Instead of waiting around to afford a professional job, there are a number of products on the market, like Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Root Touch-Up, that are great for keeping up color until you can afford to go in and have something done professionally.
