Studio 5 Style & Beauty Contributor Megan Moore helped us decide which ones are worth the hype, and more importantly… which ones are worth the money.

The Dyson Air Straightener

We’ve heard a lot in past years of the Dyson Air Wrap. Megan tried out the Dyson Air Straightener.

“It uses two things. It uses heat plates, but it also uses a downward focused air. You close the hair inside of it and air blows out the bottom, so it kind of pre-straightens the hair as it’s moving through the heated section,” Megan explained.

It works wet to dry, but Megan said she doesn’t recommend doing it on soaking wet hair. Do it on damp hair or dry hair and it’s amazing.

“I’m able to easily straighten my daughter’s curly hair so quickly in one or two sweeps,” Megan said.

The air is hot, and while that might sound like a recipe for fried hair, it does have a temperature gauge, and Megan said she actually likes it better than traditional straighteners.

“It’s actually better for us than a traditional flat iron because the air is less direct heat. It’s more of an ambient heat around the hair,” she emphasized.

The Shark Gloss Dryer

Shark is the runner up to Dyson. If you don’t want to pull the trigger on any of the Dyson products, Shark is a little more affordable. Megan tried their Gloss Dryer.

“This has really cool attachments,” Megan said. “It even has more attachments that you can add, like a diffuser if you’re curly.”

Megan really likes this tool because the top of it is rotational.

“If you have a hard time getting your arms above your head, this can be a really amazing tool,” she said.

It comes with a directional air flow piece that gives your hair a final shine, similar to the Dyson.

“After it’s dry, that’s your finishing gloss tool at the very end,” Megan said.

The Conair Curl Secret

Conair has had a few different iterations of this tool. This most recent one has more built in safety features since it does draw the hair in and spin it around the barrel. Megan knows this might freak some people out, but she said not to worry.

“Because it has the safety features in it, it will stop if there’s too much hair and it will release,” she reassured. “With as long of hair as mine, you would think that it would be risky, but really, I haven’t had any problems with it.”

It’s so easy and user friendly to use. If you have a hard time getting curls to work for you, this is the tool for you.

The Hot Tools 2″ Curling Iron

This Hot Tools curling iron is the biggest one on the market. It’s not going to give you curl, it’s going to give you bend.

“If you’re looking for that blowout look, like you got a round brush and had your hair blown out, but you can’t really do that yourself, this is going to do it,” Megan explained.

It’s going to give you a lot of wave and a lot of volume, but it’s not curl. Doing a blowout with a round brush can be hard, but using this big curling iron is easier.

Megan said you do need to have longer hair for this tool to be really useful to you.

“You have to have long enough hair that it can wrap around one and a half or two times, so past the shoulder. Otherwise, this is not going to work for you,” Megan said.

The Heated Brushes

These are heated brushes are blowing up all over TikTok. It looks like air is going to come out of it, but it actually just gets hot.

“You’re going to use this to kind of refresh your bangs, maybe on day two. It gives a lot of lift at the roots, so for shorter hair to get the blowout look, this is amazing,” Megan said.

Megan likes to use this on her front bang pieces, just to give them a nice lift and bend on.

“It’s your refresh to give you more lift on day two,” she said.
