‘Laughter makes us all feel better.’ 4 Studio 5 contributors share how they make life light

There are so many ways to make life light!

They are experts in their field, masters of their craft, voices you trust – and they’re also just people, parents and friends who are looking for ways to lighten the load, just like you.

Four of our Studio 5 contributors shared how they make life light. These are simple personal practices that they cling to for more joy and simplicity.

Miki’s Daily Routine

Studio 5 Health Contributor Miki Eberhardt plays the NYTimes games daily – usually on her back porch. “I have a specific order that I play them in: wordle, connections, and then the mini crossword,” Miki explained, “I’ve been able to get friends and family to start playing as well and so we can often text if there’s something really wild or fun or crazy that happened in the games.

Miki’s routine is more than just a game; it’s a ritual. “It’s in the morning. I read some scripture, and then I get my brain going. I love it,” she said.

Heather’s Early Morning Workouts

Studio 5 Parenting Contributor Heather Johnson keeps life light through daily exercise. “It usually starts before about 5am. I’m just a minute early.”

Heather’s dedication to her morning workouts is inspiring. “For me, it gives me a moment where it’s just me. Where I get to push in ways that I don’t push during the day or in my office, or even around my home with our family. It sets me up mentally to be in a place where I’m lighter,” said Heather.

Dr. Liz Hale’s Love for Fresh Flowers

Studio 5 Marriage & Family Contributor Dr. Liz Hale believes in the power of fresh flowers. “Fresh flowers really give me a lift. It just helps me be a little bit more gracious and grateful, especially as a receiver, even if I buy them for myself at Trader Joe’s,” Liz explained.

Dr. Matt Townsend’s Gift of Laughter

Studio 5 Relationship Contributor Dr. Matt Townsend emphasized the importance of laughter. “Laughter makes us all feel better, and it’s the straightest line between people. Don’t think you have to be funny to bring the laughter. It’s out there. You just have to look for the funny, look for the idea, look for the moments,” said Matt.
