So Studio 5

We regularly spot ideas or products that make us think of you. Things that are creative, smart and useful – or as we like to say, things that are so Studio 5!

Studio 5 Executive Producer Michelle Torsak tucks these ideas in her “So Studio 5” file and is here to share what’s in that file right now.

I’m always on the look-out for great ideas for Studio 5. Whether I’m in the car, online or out and about, Studio 5 stays stuck in the back of my brain. And when I find something that is creative, smart or helpful, I tuck it in my “So Studio 5” file.

So what’s in my “So Studio 5” file right now?

Chili in Mason Jars

I LOVE the food blog Iowa Girl Eats, whom I credit with getting me to eat green leafy vegetables in the form of this amazing Spinach Smoothie. So imagine my delight when I saw this recipe for Sweet & Spicy Chili served in a mason jar! I printed the recipe, combed my cupboards (the only thing I didn’t have on hand was the baked beans), and whipped up a batch. It’s an easy, unique chili recipe that got rave reviews. And served in a mason jar … well, need I say more.

A Brilliant Way to Display Christmas Cards

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is catching up with old friends through the mail! I love the Christmas cards, newsletters and family pictures that fill the mailbox and have always wanted to come up with a clever way to display them. But instead, I spotted this brilliantly easy way to hang Christmas cards from the kitchen cupboards. Not only is it easy, but with bright red ribbon wrapping the cupboard doors, the decorating is done. Beautifully simple!

Free Chalkboard Style Printable Gift Tags

My two obsessions right now are chalkboard art and Kraft paper. So imagine my excitement when I found these chalkboard style gift tags to top off my Kraft paper wrapped packages. Designed by illustrator/hand letterer Emily McDowell and made available on the Poppytalk blog, it’s the kind of free handmade printable I adore. Print on Avery label paper for a self-stick tag and pair with a burlap bow!

Christmas Countdown Calendar

I’m a sucker for Christmas countdown calendars. Every year I look forward to Kelly Brown’s DIY calendars with good intentions to make my own. But, Thanksgiving rolls around and I just haven’t gotten around to it, which is why I always keep my eyes peeled for pretty store-bought versions. I found my new favorite at Xpedx in Salt Lake City. Created in traditional reds and greens, each square is beautifully designed and a moveable peg counts down the days.
