Junk in the Trunk

Ashley Sameulu, from Emiliejayne’s Front Porch in Bountiful, let us accompany her as she loaded up some junk in the trunk of her car and then showed us what can be done to turn trash into treasure.

FOR LOVESEAT & CHAIR

1) Buy 3 old chairs from a thrift store or garage sale; perhaps you may have old chairs lurking in your basement. 2 of the chairs should be the same and will make a loveseat; the other will be an additional chair for the grouping.

2) Screw the 2 identical chairs together, running a dowel through the top to make them even.

3) You will need 3 approx. 3 yards of fabric for this project. For the seats measure side to side, and back to back. In addition, measure 1 long piece for the back of the loveseat. The size you cut the material will depend upon the size of the chair(s).

4) Use iron on tape to hem all sides of fabric.

5) Glue or tack the fabric to the furniture. There are many ways to be creative by using tacks, tassels, or any type of fancy or decorative edging to finish your project.

6) Painting the exposed parts of the chair (loveseat) is optional, but will enhance the end result.

FOR THE CENTERPIECE

1) Purchase glass vase and old hurricane lamp globe.

2) Place hurricane globe upside down on top of vase and glue.

3) Add Oasis (available at craft or floral outlet), and use flowers and candles of your choice to decorate.
