Think Big: Picture Enlargements

A few M&M’s can provide an afternoon pick-up.
A pacifier can soothe a babies tears.
And all of those small items can transform into big ideas for your wall and home decor.

Patrick Webster with Inkley’s, helps us think big with a camera and a frame.

Digital photography has opened up new opportunities for creative decorating. It is now easier than ever to create your own large pictures and wall decorations.

STEP ONE: Choose what you want to use for your photo

-Old photos

-Negatives

-Slides

-Tickets to shows with sentimental memories

-Hand drawn cards from your kids.

(Bring those in to be scanned and digitized. Put on CD and then printed)

-Take your own!

-Landscapes

-Family photos

-Family pets

-Interesting items you may not have thought about.

For an accent color, try photographing BOSTON BAKED BEANS

How did I do it?

-Lighting was outside in the shade.

-Set the white balance to auto or the shade setting

-Set the size on the camera to maximum and quality to fine or best.

-Photographing square objects – back up a ways. Wide angle causes distortion

-Photographing small items up close set to the macro mode (the flower)

-Tripod can be helpful

Could also use M&M’s, skittles, Fruit Loops.

For a look of the season, use a holiday item:

Halloween – Pumpkin Peeps

Christmas – Candles on the fireplace mantle, ornaments on the tree.

Scrabble board – with random tiles or spell out words or your family’s name, or create a three dimensional word search.

STEP TWO: Choose Your Equipment

Keep in mind; you do not need professional equipment.

Camera equipment –

-Four year old 4 mega pixel point and shoot

-7 mega pixel point and shoot

-8 mega pixel digital SLR

STEP THREE: Choose Your Size

How big? Rule of four-

Mega pixels times 4 equals the narrow dimension of your print.

4 mega pixel = a 16×20

5 mega pixel = a 20×24

6 mega pixel = a 24×30

(Any of these sizes we can do at our stores in about an hour)

7 mega pixel & bigger = a 30×40

(This size we send out to our prolab; takes a couple of weeks)

STEP FOUR: Frame it!

Traditional portraits usually call for traditional frames.
More contemporary images can be framed in simple frames.
Seasonal images can be framed with poster frames.
