A creative and edible favor can be the perfect finishing touch for your Thanksgiving table.
Old Fashioned Thanksgiving Postcard Cookies
Make sugar cookies and cut into approximately 3" x 4 ½" rectangle shapes (or use cookie cutter). Frost cookies with royal icing or cover with white fondant icing. Cut out edible printed wafer paper (images are printed on potato starch paper with edible food color) and place on top of each cookie. Add edible glitter, sprinkles, pearls, tiny candies, or icing borders, etc. if desired. These look amazing packaged in cellophane. Purchase wafer paper at Fancy Flours online store:
Piece of Pie Cookies
Use sugar cookie or pie crust dough to make these adorable piece of pie shaped cookies. Follow instructions that come with cookie cutter. Use real fruit pie filling, candies, or colored fondant to resemble real slices of pie. Cutter available at Fancy Flours online store:
Mr. Turkey Treat
Start with a moon pie (I like Little Debbie brand). Attach a Nutter Butter cookie to the front of the moon pie with melted chocolate to create the body. Add two candy eyes, an orange candy beak (made from candy corn or cut from an orange Starburst candy) and add a red hot for the wattle. Cut mini marshmallows in half and press cut sides in colored sugar (use fall colors: orange, red, yellow). Thread marshmallows onto thin skewers and stick in top of moon pie to create feathers.
Dip small twisted pretzels in orange candy melts and let set on waxed paper. Add a small green candy or gumdrop leaf at the top (cut green gumdrop in slices and roll out in sugar so it is flat and cut into leaf shape).
Colorful Leaf Cookies
Purchase leaf shaped cookies or make your own using sugar cookie dough. Use food color spray (found where they sell cake decorating supplies) in fall colors: green, red, orange, and/or yellow. Spray each cookie using a tiny bit of each color to create pretty fall leaves. Simple, quick and cute!
Bake cupcakes in brown paper liners. Place in an extra liner after baking. Frost cupcakes with chocolate icing and sprinkle with cocoa. Melt red, orange, yellow and/or brown candy melts and place in a plastic baggie with the corner snipped (or use chocolate only - no color). Squeeze out loopy feathers onto wax paper and let set. To assemble add an unwrapped chocolate kiss to front of cupcake and add small red candy for wattle. Insert loopy candy melt designs behind the kiss to create feathers.
Corn on a Stick
Make a recipe of Rice Krispie Treats but use Kix cereal instead. Mold into a corn cob shape and insert wooden stick let set. (Colorful candies or dried fruits can be added to the mix.) Cute wrapped in a cellophane bag with a fall leaf tag added. Could be used as a place card.
Faux Thanksgiving Dinner Treats
Turkey Drumstick: Make a recipe of Rice Krispie Treats. Mold a drumstick shape from the mix. Let set. Dip the large end of the krispie drumstick in melted milk chocolate. Let set.
Corn on Cob: Roll a small roll of eggless sugar cookie dough and insert candy corn point first in rows all around the dough to create a cob of corn.
Peas and Carrots: roll small balls to resemble peas form green Tootsie Roll candies. Cut orange cubes to resemble carrot chunks from orange Tootsie Roll candies. Mix together to serve. (Candy can be softened in the microwave for a few seconds if needed.)
